Austria Vignette 2026: Prices, Validity and Where You Need It

Most Austrian motorways and expressways require a valid vignette if your vehicle falls into the applicable weight category.

For 2026, passenger cars can choose from a 1-day, 10-day, 2-month, or annual vignette. The official prices are €9.60, €12.80, €32.00, and €106.80 respectively.

Which vignette should you choose?

Just passing through? The 1-day option covers you. Off on a short holiday? The 10-day version usually fits. Longer trips tend to make more sense with the 2-month option.

The 2026 annual vignette runs from December 1, 2025 through January 31, 2027.

Important activation rules

The 1-day and 10-day digital vignettes can be valid immediately.

But private consumers buying a 2-month or annual digital vignette online through ASFINAG generally face an 18-day wait before it becomes valid. Buying through certain physical points of sale can get you immediate validity instead.

Don't forget section tolls

A standard Austrian vignette doesn't cover everything — certain tunnels and Alpine crossings, including routes like Brenner and Tauern, charge separate section tolls.

Check your full route before travelling rather than assuming the vignette has every road covered.
